Golf in Vietnam: the best courses, when to play and how to book

Vietnam had about a hundred 18-hole golf courses by the end of 2025, many of them built along the coast in the last fifteen years, and it was named Asia’s Best Golf Destination at the World Golf Awards 2025. For a visitor, the appeal is simple: seaside and mountain courses, a caddie for every player, and a beach or a city a short drive away.

Where to play

  • Hanoi and the North

A ring of courses lies within about an hour of Hanoi, among them BRG Kings Island, Sky Lake and Van Tri. On the coast, FLC Halong Bay looks out over the bay from a hilltop.

  • Da Nang, Hoi An and Hue

The central coast is the country’s best-known golf strip: Ba Na Hills Golf Club, designed by Luke Donald, in the hills behind Da Nang; Greg Norman’s Dunes Course at BRG Da Nang and Colin Montgomerie’s Montgomerie Links by the sea; Robert Trent Jones Jr.’s Hoiana Shores south of Hoi An; and Sir Nick Faldo’s Laguna Lang Co on the road to Hue.

  • Nha Trang and Cam Ranh

Links-style courses on the dunes near Cam Ranh airport, such as KN Golf Links, pair easily with a beach holiday.

  • Ho Chi Minh City and Ho Tram

Around Saigon, players go to Tan Son Nhat, Long Thanh and Vietnam Golf & Country Club. About two hours away on the coast, The Bluffs Grand Ho Tram is laid out over high sand dunes.

  • Da Lat

In the cool Central Highlands, Dalat Palace Golf Club is the oldest in the country, with origins going back to the 1920s.

  • Quy Nhon and Phu Quoc

Newer seaside courses have opened at Quy Nhon on the central coast and on Phu Quoc island, for golfers who want to combine a round with a quieter beach.

When to play

  • North

October to April is the comfortable season. Summer is hot, humid and stormy.

  • Central coast

February to August is dry. From September to December, rain and typhoons can close courses for days.

  • South and Da Lat

December to April is dry. In the rainy season, play in the morning: the downpour usually comes in the afternoon.

On the course

  • Caddies

Almost every course assigns one caddie per player, and it is not optional. A tip at the end of the round is customary; the pro shop will tell you the usual amount.

  • Tee times

Book ahead, especially for weekends and public holidays, when local members fill the mornings. Many hotels and resorts book for their guests.

  • Heat

Tee off early. By late morning the sun is strong all year in the South and in summer everywhere; carry water and sunscreen.

  • Dress

Collared shirt and golf shoes, as anywhere. Clubs can be rented at most courses if you travel without yours.

How to book a round

  • Directly with the club

Most courses welcome visitors. Book on the club’s website, by email or by phone: a few days ahead for a weekday, one to two weeks ahead for a weekend. Give the date, the number of players and the tee time you would like.

  • Through your hotel

Resorts with their own course, and most city hotels, book tee times and transfers for their guests. Stay-and-play packages often cost less than booking each part separately.

  • With a golf tour operator

For a trip across several courses, an operator arranges tee times, transfers and hotels in one booking.

  • What the price includes

The quoted fee usually covers the green fee, a caddie and a shared buggy; ask for the all-in price. Weekdays cost less than weekends, and afternoon tee times less than mornings. The caddie’s tip is paid in cash on the day.

Golf and business

In Vietnam, golf is as much about relationships as about sport: company golf days, charity tournaments and rounds with partners are common. If you are invited, a thank-you afterwards is noticed. We deliver congratulation flowers to offices, clubhouses and hotels across Vietnam, for a tournament winner, a hole-in-one or a host you want to thank.
