Arriving in Viet Nam: visa, e-visa and airport guide 2026

Everything you need between booking your flight and leaving the arrivals hall: whether you need a visa, how to apply for an e-visa on the official government website (and avoid look-alike sites), what happens at immigration and customs, fast track services, and a page for each of the five main international airports with live weather and traffic.

Viet Nam's main international airports

Viet Nam has more international airports (for example Cat Bi in Hai Phong, Phu Bai in Hue, Can Tho). The new Long Thanh airport near Ho Chi Minh City is scheduled to start commercial flights from 1 December 2026.

Do you need a visa?

  • 45 days visa-free, any purpose: citizens of Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland (Resolution 44/NQ-CP, valid 15 March 2025 – 14 March 2028).
  • 45 days visa-free for tourism: citizens of Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland (Resolution 229/NQ-CP, valid 15 August 2025 – 14 August 2028); your passport must be valid for at least 6 more months.
  • Everyone else needs a visa, including citizens of the United States, Australia, Canada, India and China. For most visitors the easiest option is the e-visa below.
  • Phu Quoc island has a separate 30-day visa-free rule for foreign visitors; check its conditions with your airline or the Immigration Department before relying on it.

Applying for an e-visa

  • The e-visa is open to citizens of all countries and territories, for up to 90 days, single or multiple entry.
  • Apply only on the official portal, which ends in .gov.vn: evisa.gov.vn or thithucdientu.gov.vn.
  • Processing takes 3 working days after a complete application and payment; apply at least a week before you fly.
  • Government fee from 1 April 2026: US$25 single entry, US$50 multiple entry up to 90 days.
  • The fee is paid online through the portal and is not refunded if the visa is refused.
  • Questions: Immigration Department hotline 024 3825 7941, email foreigners@xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn.

Many websites with names like "vietnam-visa" are private agencies that charge a mark-up on top of the government fee. If the address does not end in .gov.vn, it is not the government.

Step by step after landing

  1. Before you land: fill in the pre-arrival form at prearrival.immigration.gov.vn. The Immigration Department recommends it to shorten the wait at immigration.
  2. Immigration: show your passport (and your e-visa if you need one). Automated gates at Vietnamese airports are for departing residents only, so visitors use the staffed counters.
  3. Baggage: collect your bags in the baggage hall.
  4. Customs: declare cash over US$5,000 (or the equivalent) or over VND 15,000,000, and gold jewellery of 300 g or more. A false declaration can be fined up to VND 50 million.
  5. Arrivals hall: mobile carriers (Viettel, VinaPhone, MobiFone) sell SIM cards here; bring your passport to register. There are ATMs and exchange counters; keep some cash in Vietnamese dong, as not every taxi takes cards.
  6. Into the city: taxis, Grab and other ride-hailing apps, and airport buses. Each airport page below lists the pickup points.

Fast track and VIP arrival services

A fast track service meets you near the aircraft door, takes you through a priority lane at immigration and walks you out to the arrivals hall. It helps most on late-night arrivals, peak holiday weeks or tight connections. What we found on 3 October 2026 (Flosa has no partnership with any of these):

  • Noi Bai airport (Hanoi): the airport's own VIP meet-and-greet service meets arriving passengers before immigration and helps with immigration, baggage and customs. Hotline 0867 111 595; no published price.
  • Tan Son Nhat (Ho Chi Minh City): the airport services company SASCO publishes lounge and assistance combos for departures; for arrivals, book through the platforms below.
  • Booking platforms such as Klook, Headout, KKday and Trip.com sell arrival fast track for Tan Son Nhat, Noi Bai and Da Nang; on Headout prices started at about VND 470,000–570,000 per person.
  • Travel agencies such as Vietnam Discovery list fast track at Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, Da Nang, Cam Ranh and Phu Quoc from about US$29–49 per person depending on the hour.

Before you pay, check whether the price includes baggage help and a car, whether night arrivals cost more, and the name of the person who will hold your sign.

Being met with flowers

Arriving for a wedding, a reunion or a business visit? Flosa delivers flowers and flower leis to the arrivals halls at Tan Son Nhat, Noi Bai and Da Nang, timed to the landing: choose a lei (Joyful Connection lei, Flower lei, Elegant lei) or a bouquet and write the flight number and the greeter's name in the order note. In other cities we deliver flowers to your hotel.
